The Omkarananda Alaknanda Educational Academy, a
Junior High School, is situated 140 km (5 hours
drive) away from Rishikesh, in Srikot near
Shrinagar, in the District Pauri Garhwal.
Shrinagar is an important station for the
pilgrims on the way to Badrinath. The famous
H.N. Bahuguna Garhwal University is also located
in this town.
The area of Shrinagar/Srikot is famous from
ancient times, since Adishankaracharya had
visited this place with his disciples. The story
goes that Adishankaracharya, who was a divine
embodiment of highest purity and wisdom, was
severely attacked by evil Tantriks, who wanted
to destroy him. For that purpose, they had
constructed a Shriyantra, but in a wrong way.
Adishankaracharya found out everything and
immersed the wrongly constructed Shriyantra in
the river, so that it cannot harm anymore
anybody.
The Omkarananda Alaknanda Educational Academy in
Srikot is situated at the Alaknanda River, ca. 2
km from the centre of Shrinagar, towards
Rudraprayag and Badrinath. Very near to the
School, at the Alaknanda River, is a Siddhapeeth,
a Temple of the Divine Mother Dhari-Devi.
This beautiful School was founded in 1991 and
covers Classes from Nursery to Classes VIII.
This School is widely known for its constant
excellent results. It has become very popular
for its excellent management, high class
education and remarkable extra-curricular
activities, like folkdances according to the
Uttarakhand culture and scout guide education on
a National level. Since this School is very
deserving and the number of students is
increasing much, the Omkarananda Educational
Society has sponsored the construction of new
school buildings.
