At 10 km before Deoprayag on the
Rishikesh-Deoprayag Road, there is a west
turnoff and another 6 km lead to the entry point
of the village of Chaund. The last leg is 0.5 km
climb on foot, which takes about 15 minutes to
arrive in the middle of the village.
There is a Chamunda-Devi Mandir in the village.
The local women here collect wood sticks and
leaves every morning from the nearby forests and
tend to the goats at the same time.
Omkarananda Ganga Sangam Bal Vidyalaya, Chaund,
has been founded in 1998 and is housed in a
typical beautiful old Garhwali village house. It
runs Nursery Classes to Classes V. Students here
come on foot, from five nearby villages, within
a radius of 2 km. Beside the core curriculum,
they are also taught Garhwali songs and dances
and play Kabaddi as a sport.
