Foundation Day Celebrations
in Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam Inter-College,
1st December 2012

With the Blessings of Paramahamsa Omkarananda Saraswati, Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam was founded on 1st December 1983 in Muni-ki-reti, Rishikesh.

Over the years Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam developed into an Inter-College with 2500 students, which is famous in Uttarakhand for producing most excellent, brilliant and outstanding students.

On 1st December 2013 the School celebrated its 30th Foundation Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj, Kumari Somashekhariji and other esteemed Members of the Managing Committee blessed the occasion with their presence.

The event began with the lighting of the lamp by the Revered Chief Guest Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj, President of Omkarananda Ashram.

At the commencement of the cultural programme the Blessings of Goddess Saraswati were invoked by girl-students, wearing beautiful red and white coloured Saris, and dancing to "Saraswati Vandana".

This was followed by the speech of the School Vice-Captain, Anima Rawat, who threw light on the overall development of the School till now.

An interesting Dance-Choreography was performed by a team of our school students, who had represented Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam during an International Competition in City Montessori School, Lucknow. The dance was based on the theme, "Heading towards a Digital World".

After this the students of class 6th to 12th presented a song, "Wo Kisna hai…"  devoted to the spiritual love of Radha and Krishna.

The show stopper of the programme was no doubt a colourful dance by the tiny tots on the song, "Aaj Radha ko Shyaam yaad aa gaya". It was a unique combination of Garba and Dandiya.

Mr. Ramesh Uniyal, a supporting staff, sang a lively song in Garhwali, composed by himself, dedicated to Paramahamsa Swami Omkarananda Saraswatiji. He got a huge applause for his singing and composing skills!

An energetic Punjabi dance was presented by the students which drew mass appreciation from everyone present there.

The most awaited event of the day was the Release of the Annual School Magazine, "Prayatnasheel" 2011-12. Kunal Gupta, a student of Class 11 of Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam, had been selected by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for a 10-day visit to Japan from 18th to 28th November 2012 to represent the Indian community. He is a very meritorious student and was Topper of Class 10 in Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam. Since he just had returned from Japan two days ago, our Principal Sachdevaji spontaneously requested him to come up to the stage and speak a few words about his experience in Japan.

Kunal Gupta frankly told to all, in front of the mike, that he feels, that there are important things Indian people could learn from the Japanese, for example, that they treat not only their own living places, but also the public property as their own and therefore they keep public places extremely clean!

Kunal further narrated, that in the host family of his, in Japan, nobody knew English, but they were very, very kind to him.

Class 11 Student of Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam, Kunal Gupta,
speaks about the experience, which he had, on a sponsored trip to Japan.

During his 10-day stay he could visit important places in Japan, Schools, University, different Factories, and he was very impressed about the smooth running of those places and he also observed the high class cleanliness and effective waste-management in Japan.

Kunal Gupta was often invited to big social gatherings and cultural programmes, where he could interact with a lot of people.

Kunalji mentioned smilingly a very heart-warming fact: wherever he went and met people in Japan, he talked about the Omkarananda Saraswati Nilayam School Motto, given by Gurudev Paramahamsa Omkarananda Saraswati: "Think like a Genius, work like a Giant, live like a Saint!"  Kunal told, that many people from Japan liked it so much, that they wanted him to repeat it again and again and many of them learned it by heart.

Like that, through the medium of a bright OSN student, Gurudev Swami Omkarananda's Wisdom also spreads in Japan.
