this special event.
In the morning Pujas, Hawana, Bhajan, Kirtan
and Guru Upadesha took place, followed by Sadhu Bhandara.
The afternoon programme started with Chanting
of different Vedic Hymns by two well-trained disciples of Swami
Shankaratilakananda, Brahmacharini Diskha and her Guru-Brother.
They then welcomed everybody and gave an introduction about the
life of Swami Tilak Paramahamsa in Spanish and English Language.
After that an Indian Classical Music Concert
took place by Tabla- and Violin-Master, Shri Shivanandaji, and
Sitarplayer Bhuwan, who gave a demonstration of Rag Yaman.
Then Shri Gopalacharyaji Maharaj, the
President of the Sanskrit Gurukul, Darshan Mahavidyalaya, and a
well-known Kathavachak, was requested to address the audience,
which consisted of different local Sadhus and Indian and foreign
devotees. Gopalacharyaji, in his inimitable Katha-Style,
emphasized the importance of a life, dedicated to the Divine,
since everything else in this world cannot remain. His Katha, in

his speech on "The Importance of the Guru". |
Then Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji Maharaj
was requested to enlighten the audience about the importance of
the spiritual Guru and the characteristics of an ideal disciple.
Swamiji talked for about 32 minutes and he
described with many practical examples, how an ideal disciple
should behave, and how the spiritual Guru slowly guides the
disciple to perfection. Swamiji explained, that during this
process sometimes the disciple has to undergo severe tests. But if
he is ready to face them, he will be rewarded and comes out as a
strong, shining and glorious spiritual personality.
Shri Swami Vishveshwaranandaji emphasized that
utmost loyalty to the Guru and his advices, and very hard work and
discipline from the side of the disciple, are required for real
progress on the spiritual path.
Swamiji praised the hard-working and dedicated
disciples of Swami Shankaratilakananda.
Since the Mahasamadhi-Day or Punyatithi of the
Guru of Shri Swami Shankaratilakanandaji was honoured on this
special day, Swami Vishveshwarananda emphasized the fact, that a
real spiritual Guru is not the physical body, and therefore a real
Guru never "dies", even if he leaves the physical body. A real
Guru is always omnipresent.
Swami Vishveshwarananda got a lot of applause
from everybody for his inspiring speech. Shri Swami
Shankaratilakananda and his disciples expressed their joy and
gratitude to Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda and honoured him with a
shawl.
A devotee from Hyderabad, Shri Ch. G.
Krishnamurthy, former President Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, who
attended this function, also expressed his admiration to Swami
Vishveshwarananda for his lively and practical speech. He said:
"Swamiji, with your inspiring speech you have put light in
many dark corners".
The further programme continued with Indian
