Akshaya Tritiya Celebration
in Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas on 6th May 2011

Additional Puja and Abhisheka for Mahakala-Bhairava
on Akshaya Tritiya.

Akshaya Tritiya is considered as one of the most auspicious days of the Hindu-Calendar.

It is celebrated once in a year on the third day of the bright half of Vaishakha Month (April/May). During this time Sun and Moon are exalted and at the peak of their brightness.

The Sanskrit word "Akshaya" means "imperishable", "unending", "eternal". Any good work or noble deed, initiated on that day, is considered to bring good luck and lasting success.

Akshaya Tritiya is the birthday of the great Sage Parashurama, the 6th Incarnation of Lord Vishnu. On this day many people conduct special Pujas, take bath in holy rivers, do charity, etc.

Nowadays it has become a big trend in India, to purchase gold, or silver, precious jewellery or other valuables on that special day, since it is believed, that this will bring a lot of good fortune and prosperity.

On request of a Devotee a very special additional Puja and Abhisheka for Lord Mahakala-Bhairava were performed, on this Akshaya Tritiya, in Omkarananda Ashram Himalayas.

All the Omkarananda Ashram Priests took care that this holy function was celebrated with utmost devotion.

In this event also the President of Omkarananda Ashram, Shri Swami Vishveshwarananda Saraswati, Swami Satchidananda, Kumari Somashekhari, Shri G. Sukumar and others took part.

During this special Puja and Abhisheka the sun was shining brightly. About 10 minutes after completion of this holy function with Prasadam, suddenly thunder, lightning and strong monsoon- like rain came for a short time.

It was seen by all devotees as a sign, that all Divinities, including Lord Mahakala-Bhairava, were pleased with this special Puja and have accepted it.

This day was indeed very blissful.
